The Buddha Bar franchise has been a staple in the nightlife scene for decades, offering a unique blend of high-end luxury and Eastern-inspired mystique. I've been fortunate enough to experience it firsthand a few times, and I have to say that each time, I left with mixed feelings - a sense of awe at the opulence, but also a creeping sense of disappointment that I'd left the real thing behind.

The Originals

The Buddha Bar brand was started by Raphael Nadjari and Cyril Coste in the 1990s, with the aim of creating a sophisticated, eclectic space that would bring together art, music, and cuisine. They drew inspiration from the Buddha Bar in Paris, which was known for its avant-garde style and extensive collection of Buddha statues. The result was a franchise that was at once cutting-edge and timeless, with a sense of mystery and allure that was hard to resist. At its best, the Buddha Bar was a place where the boundaries between East and West blurred, where the exotic and the mundane coexisted in perfect harmony. But, as with all things, there's a point at which the line between authenticity and kitsch gets blurred, and I think we may have reached that point with Buddha Bar XXVIII.

The XXVIII Experiment

Last year, I had the chance to experience Buddha Bar XXVIII, and I have to say that it left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The space was sleek and modern, with a minimalist aesthetic that seemed to emphasize the high-end clientele more than the art or music. And while the DJ was pumping out a decent beat, there was something about the whole thing that felt...off. Maybe it was the air of corporate blandness that hung over the whole place like a pall, or maybe it was just the sense that we'd lost sight of what made the Buddha Bar special in the first place. Whatever it was, I found myself wandering the empty dance floor, feeling like I'd stumbled into some generic luxury lounge that just happened to have a Buddha statue or two scattered around for good measure.

Perubahan yang Tidak Terduga

Saya hanya berharap bahwa mereka dapat memahami apa yang membuat mereka unik di awalnya dan mencoba untuk kembali ke sumber inspirasi mereka.
