My parents were part of a generation that grew up in the shadow of the industrial revolution, and they saw firsthand the devastating effects of unchecked growth and consumption. It's a perspective that's easy to lose sight of in today's world, where the pace of life is always speeding up and the horizon is always receding. The concept of yleislakko – that shared, collective awareness of the world's fragility – is something that I think we're only just starting to grasp. It's a tricky thing to put into words, but it's the feeling that we're all in this together, that our individual actions have a ripple effect on the world around us.

Perheeni on asunut sijainteemme noin 30 vuotta. Muistelen, kun lapsena menin ensimmäistä kertaa kylän metsään etsimään karpaloita. Metsä oli yhä täysin luonnontilainen. Ei mitään kaupunkien ääniä tai huutoja. Sain olla täysin yksinäinen, vaikka ympärilläni oli muita lapsia. Metsä oli oikea sirkus, jossa voisin pelata yksin. Tällä hetkellä enemmistö kylästä on muuttunut yleislakoksi. Metsää ei enää ole. Olen kuullut ihmisiltä, jotka sanovat, että tällaisen muutoksen takana on hyväksyvä asenne.

Ympäristön muutos on vähitellen muuttunut. Tähän mennessä yleislakko on jo lähes täysin syrjäytynyt. Kaupungit ovat kasvaneet ja kaupunkitilanne on muuttunut täysin, sillä kaupungit ovat niitä laajemmat. Yleislakko ei ole oikeastaan yleislakko enää, vaan siitä on kasvanut kaupunki. Mutta kaupunkilaisille tämä ei ole ongelma, vaan se on yleislakon eli luonnon sijaan valikoituneen kaupungin elämä.

Olen yrittänyt olla osa kaupungin kehitystä, mutta olen huomannut, että yleislakon tilalle on syntyneen valikoituneita kaupunkeja. Tämä on ollut aika vaativa jaksaminen, mutta onhan se tärkeää olla yhteydessä luonnolle. Luonnon sijaan, joka on elämää, on valikoitunut kaupunki, joka on ihmisten rakentama. Mutta mitä tapahtuu, kun kaupungit kasvavat ja metsä jää pois? Olen varma, että tätä ei ole tehty tahallisesti, mutta kuitenkin niin on.

Kesimpulan

Luonnon tilalle on syntyneet valikoituneet kaupungit. Tämä on ollut aika vaativa jaksaminen, mutta onhan se tärkeää olla yhteydessä luonnolle. Yleislakko on muuttunut, mutta luonnon sijaan on valikoitunut kaupunki.
