PUBG Update: Skill Rating, Vikendi & Spike Traps
PUBG's latest update introduces a range of experimental features, map overhauls, and quality-of-life improvements. Here's a detailed breakdown of the key changes.
PUBG Labs and Skill Based Rating
PUBG Labs now serves as an experimental sandbox where new modes, rules, and features are tested alongside player feedback. The first major test is the Skill Based Rating (SBR) system, running from November 26, 12 PM PST to January 2, 12 PM PST. This rating tracks player skill independently from the existing Survival Title System. Players must complete five matches to see their rating, which is applied per mode. After each match, feedback can be submitted on rating adjustments. On December 6, based on community data, the maximum rating points per match were increased, and placement points were spread more evenly across the top 50% of placements to better reward strong performances.
Vikendi Overhaul
Vikendi receives significant terrain, town, and balance changes. New roads and additional vehicles improve navigation across snowy areas. The river near Castle has frozen over for easier movement. Mount Kreznic's height has been lowered, and terrain height variance has been added across the map to provide more cover. Towns are reshaped: Volnova's major buildings and routes modified, Peshkova's loot spawns increased, and Trevno's garages relocated for quicker escapes. Some buildings were removed or replaced to adjust line of sight from high vantage points.
Blue Zone balance on Vikendi now features larger early safe zones and faster early zone speeds, while mid- and late-game zone sizes and speeds remain similar. Zone locations are slightly more random. Vehicle spawns are significantly increased, with locations adjusted to align with the new Blue Zone balance.
Spike Traps
Spike Traps are a new throwable item that punctures vehicle tires on contact without damaging overall vehicle health. Each trap affects only one vehicle before disappearing. They spawn at rates consistent with other throwables across all maps. Players deploy a trap by selecting it and pressing LMB; once placed, it cannot be picked up.
Way Point Feature
The Way Point feature is a map-only planning tool. Open the map (M key), press ALT+RMB to place the first point, then hold ALT and click additional locations to add up to four points per group. Press ALT+Del to remove placed Way Points; placing a new starting point clears all existing points. In Duo/Squad modes, teammates' Way Points appear with a radio message and can be toggled per teammate in the Team Management menu.
Auto Attachment Options
Three auto attachment toggles are available in Settings > Gameplay: auto equip when picking up an attachment with the F key, auto transfer attachments from the current weapon when switching to a picked-up weapon, and auto equip when picking up attachments while the inventory is open.
No HUD for Custom Matches
Custom match creators can now control UI visibility via Match Setting > Rule Tab > UI Option. Available presets include All On, All Off, Hardcore, Realistic, No Location Info, No Battle Royale Info, and Manual. In Manual mode, individual UI elements can be fine-tuned.
Store and UI Updates
New items added to the store include BattleStat weapons (MK47, MP5K, QBZ), Madsy belt and shoes, 15 Twitch Broadcaster Royale items, and the Venetian Crate containing 17 new gun skins. The Weapon Mastery screen now allows sorting by default (alphabetical), by level, or by damage. Note that old replay videos may not play due to a replay system version update.
Bug Fixes
Key gameplay fixes address tire smoke persisting after wheel destruction, forced spectator POV downward when a character is pushed, visual issues when picking up Spike Traps in FPP, and incorrect damage taken from motorbikes. World fixes include a Miramar vehicle spawn that caused explosion on entry and inaudible footsteps on certain carpets. Custom match fixes restore the cloudy weather option on Erangel, correct safe zone issues, and resolve observer visibility problems for waypoint lines and boost/heal items. Zombie Mode fixes correct incorrect preset descriptions, human appearance when equipping face items, zombie respawn on the plane, and display errors after respawning. Survivor Pass fixes address challenge completion issues and mission display. Skin fixes tackle mummy gloves not showing with tattoo sleeves and missing footsteps on puddles. A store fix corrects duplicate item display in crate previews.
