Forza Horizon 6: Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 Unlock Guide
If you are a fan of 1980s touring car legends or just love a build with incredible rally heritage, the 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is probably high on your wishlist in Forza Horizon 6.
This turbocharged beast is locked behind one of the game's classic Barn Finds. You cannot just drive out to the woods and grab it right at the start of the game—the barn will be empty until you actually trigger the rumor.
Here is a straightforward walkthrough on how to unlock the rumor, where to find the hidden barn, and how to get the car into your garage without wasting your hard-earned credits.
Step 1: Trigger the Barn Find Rumor
Before you start hunting, you need the map rumor to pop up. This requires a little bit of campaign progression in the game's version of Japan.
-
The Goal: You need to reach Level 2 (Tourist level) in the main campaign.
-
The Milestone: Keep an eye on your Discover Japan Collector's Journal. You are looking to earn the Green Stamp.
-
How to get it: Just play the game naturally. Focus on hitting the yellow map markers for story missions, running road races, drifting through touge events, and smashing the regional mascots scattered around the map to build up your XP and Horizon Horizon Points.
Once you hit Level 2, the radio host will drop the rumor, and a gray search circle will appear on your map.
Step 2: The Barn Location (Ito Region Border)
The search zone sits right on the southern edge of the Ito region, right where it borders Tokyo City.
If you look at the bottom of your map, you will see a prominent, large road crossing/intersection. The barn is tucked away in the dense forest just south of that main road.
Instead of crashing blindly through the thick trees, use this shortcut to find the clearing:
-
Head to the winding gravel road that runs just west of the designated search circle.
-
Slow down and look for a small, narrow dirt pathway breaking off from the gravel and heading straight into the dense tree line.
-
Follow that dirt path directly into the clearing, and you will spot the barn.
Once you arrive, a cutscene will trigger showing the iconic, wing-backed 80s racer resting inside an old shipping container.
Step 3: Restoring the RS500 For Free
After the cutscene ends, the Sierra Cosworth is sent off to your garage for a full restoration.
The restoration process takes about 1 to 2 hours of real-time gameplay. The game will give you the option to spend credits to skip the wait time and finish the car instantly.
Unless you are absolutely swimming in cash, do not pay the buyout fee. The fee drops the closer the car is to being finished anyway. Just go knock out a few online events, custom races, or seasonal challenges, and the game will notify you for free when this absolute legend is ready to hit the asphalt.
